For this month the media that seemed to be the most consistent with me was the social network Facebook. I'm pretty sure that everyone has a Facebook, and for me it is a way to keep close with my family members and friends.
The website for Facebook is www.facebook.com
1) Who paid for it?
The company that runs Facebook is called Facebook Ireland Limited.
2) What group is targeted by the ad?
There are many groups that are targeted. Some, like me, use Facebook to keep in touch with family and friends, others use it to advertise their own companies, and others use it to help people.
3) What techniques of persuasion are used?
The tools of persuasion are Association, Bandwagon, and Warm and Fuzzy.
4) Is it closer to fantasy or reality?
I think Facebook is closer to reality because all the friends I have are real. They comment on my posts giving me advice and ask how I am doing. But there are some things that are out there that are fake. Companies use Facebook to sell their products also.
5) In what ways does this depict a lifestyle that is healthy and unhealthy?
I think the healthy part about Facebook is keeping in touch with the people you know. If you are feeling down, people say many things to keep your head up and just try to make you feel better. The one bad thing I think about Facebook is sometimes people use it to "Gossip." They talk about other people and it is one thing that I don't like about it.
6) What kind of culture does the example create?
It creates many types of cultures. There are groups that bring old and young people together, I created a page called "Alaskan Weight Watchers" so that people who are trying to be healthy can give each other encouragement to keep going. I really like it because its the people you know that are giving you advice rather than someone you don't know and wouldn't take them seriously.
I like Facebook because it helps me know what is going on in my friends and families life, and they get to know what is going on with mine. There are groups that you can join whether it be to help you lose weight, the sports you play in, or in the area you live to know what's going on in the community. Companies and people use it as advertising. Its a good way to get the word out and let people know about anything.

PBS Teachers
Quiz Yourself!- I did pretty bad for the 1st part of the quiz! I got 4 out of 12! I am very shocked that I didn't know what percentages of kids are doing on the internet. I tried to think of when I was those ages and see what I was doing on the internet, maybe that was just too long ago...hehe. I hope I do better on the second part!
Well, according to the second part of the quiz I have 4 out of the 6 tools in my classroom. I think that is pretty good. I think I need to look into these other sites and see what they have to offer!
The Digital Media Landscape!- I explored How Do I use it and the link that I chose was 21st century Learning Commons. This site helps educators teach students with tools that they are using today to help enhance their skills. This site is to help enhance 21st century learning, provide a technology-advanced to utilize INFOhio Electronics, and foster a sense of global community through a variety of technology and learning methods. I liked this site because it helps me see what teachers are using today. Being from the village, you get "behind" on all the new technology that is coming out and this site can help me keep up with it.
PBS Resources- The resource that I liked the most was Arthur's Guide to Media Literacy. I loved Arthur while I was growing up and I think it was very informational and beneficial to my learning. Each episode has a meaning for each thing that we need to learn like math, reading comprehension, and writing. They would watch the episodes and after have a class discussion then an assignment. I think that would be fun for the students to do instead of same homework everyday!
Integrating Digital Content and Tools- The ones that intrigued me the most was make a video and put it up on TeacherTube. I think it would be a great assignment to video record an event or lesson and put it up there to let the people who weren't there see it. It would be fun for the students' to record and pick out which of the clips they would like on there. It also helps parents know what their children are doing and gets them involved in their child's learning. Another one that intrigued me was create a class blog about weekly lessons. I would love to see all my student's reactions to the lessons, if they were interested in them or not, which ones that they enjoyed the most or least. It would help connection between me and the students that are shy to speak in front of others. The last one that I would do would be to have a guest speaker on Skype. Kids these days are very much into skype and I'm sure they would be excited to have an assignment or "lecture" done on Skype in school. They would get a sense that school can be fun as well as their daily habits. There are many intriguing tools on here but these are my top three that I would use in my classroom!
